Kerja sama Marvel dan Netflix dalam memproduksi serial superhero berhasil menyajikan pengalaman yang belum pernah disaksikan sebelumnya. Pendekatan yang berbeda dalam menggambarkan karakter komik ke live-action adalah kunci kesuksesan kolaborasi Marvel dan Netflix. Auranya cenderung gelap serta bukan untuk konsumsi anak-anak. Dimulai dari Daredevil (2015) dan kemudian Jessica Jones (2015), Marvel seakan bebas mengeksplorasi karakter yang tidak mungkin dilakukan di layar bioskop. Dan kini Daredevil Season 2 sudah full ditayangkan oleh Netflix.
Kabar baiknya, Daredevil season 2 masih membawa aura positif dari season pertama. Hampir semua orang setuju jika season 1 adalah pencapaian yang luar biasa bagi sebuah serial televisi. Menurut data Variety, season 1 berhasil mengundang 10.7% subscriber Netflix (sekitar 4.4 juta). Angka tersebut masih belum termasuk penonton di luar AS yang jika ditotal bisa mencapai 6 juta penonton hanya dalam 11 hari sejak penayangannya. Jika dihitung pasca 11 hari, pastinya angka total lebih tinggi lagi. Luar biasa bukan?
Season 2 berhasil memenuhi ekspektasi penonton setia Marvel dengan mengusung tema yang lebih luas dari sebelumnya. Komposisi semua aspek yang sama bagusnya—para heroes, villain, action, serta kualitas cerita—semuanya saling mendukung dan membuat Daredevil tampil lebih elegan dibanding musim lalu. Jika pada season 1 menitikberatkan pada kehidupan awal Matt Murdock menjadi Daredevil, season 2 lebih memfokuskan diri pada pengembangan hubungan antar karakter lama, ditambah karakter baru yang tentunya sudah ditunggu para fans. Yup, The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) dan Elektra (Elodie Yung) datang untuk meramaikan suasana, bukan hanya sebagai karakter sampingan tentunya. Frank Castle a.ka The Punisher memang pernah punya solo movie (2004) namun potensinya tak dapat dimaksimalkan saat itu. Serial Daredevil berhasil membawa The Punisher menjadi person of interest yang benar-benar hidup di benak penonton. Penampilan Jon Bernthal (alum. The Walking Dead) patut diacungi jempol. Setiap ekspresi serta dialog tentang kemarahan, penderitaan, dan kesedihan yang dialami The Punisher terlihat natural. Potensi Bernthal benar-benar dimaksimalkan di sini.
